local author Helen Nathan's creation combines story telling and recipies a must for girls aged 4 - 7 years old
Flossie Crums is almost eight, loves cooking and dressing
up, and has fairies living in her garden. When they ask her to
make cupcakes for Queen Rosie’s birthday ball, she and her
mum come up with some delicious recipes!
Flossie Crums and the Fairy Cupcake Ball is Flossie’s first
baking adventure to the fairy kingdom of Romolonia.
Narrated by Flossie herself, the book tells the story of how she
makes friends with six fantastical fairies and, by baking some very special cupcakes, manages to make the queen of the
fairies’ birthday party a sweet success.
Putney mum Helen Nathan clearly
remembers the first cake she
ever baked: an orange squash
flavoured sponge cake that
she made with her mother
when just five years old.
But it was only after a long career in the wine trade, and when
she had three children of her own aged 11, 7 and 6, that Helen was able to
re-live the pleasures of shared baking. She discovered that
baking had come a long way. Now ready-to-roll icing is available
in every colour of the rainbow and sugar-crafted butterflies and
edible diamonds can be ordered at the click of a mouse.
Baking and decorating cupcakes became a regular feature of
the Nathan household and, whilst baking, Helen would make
up elaborate fairy adventures with a heroine who loved to bake.
This was the inspiration for Helen’s first book, Flossie Crums and
the Fairy Cupcake Ball.
As you follow Flossie’s enchanting tale you’ll meet her new fairy friends – Coco, Crystal,
Caramel, Cherry, Honey and Minty – and discover
a cupcake recipe that’s simply perfect for each fairy. Not
forgetting, of course, Queen Rosie herself, who deserves a truly
spectacular cake for her birthday ball. See how Flossie’s magical
journey unfolds then make your very own cake creations by
following Flossie’s fun and easy recipes.
Flossie Crums and the Fairy Cupcake Ball is a storybook and
recipe book rolled into one that will not only encourage
children to read but will inspire parents and children to be
creative in the kitchen. - A must for the Christmas Shopping List but members of PutneySW15.com and WandsworthTown.com could win a signed copy.
Another local mum & cook book author Tana Ramsay & her daughters have given Flossie & her book the thumbs up!
“The most enchanting fairy book I have ever read. Flossie is slightly naughty, very
clever and a whizz in the kitchen. My girls want to be her and who can blame
them – she is very cool and she cooks amazing cakes!”
