As autumn approaches Putney designer gives you an inside look at forthcoming trends...
The summer holidays are soon to come to a close, perhaps some of the
parents amongst you are breathing a sigh of relief.!
Traditionally, the autumn is the time when people start thinking about
interior design, some of the big trade shows take place in September
and here are some of the forthcoming trends to help you update your
home.
Wallpaper the stuff that surrounds you.
Some of my clients know about my love affair with wallpaper. A well
chosen paint colour may be the quickest and cheapest way to update
a room, but a carefully selected designer wallpaper, even on one wall,
can quickly express your taste & personality for a minimal outlay.
See how I used a modern floral & muted silvery grey wallpaper,
in a loft apartment.

The Shape of things to come
There is always a place for a well chosen light fitting in a modern
interior whether its a minimalist paper shade or a glorious antique
chandelier. But how to fuse the curlicue shapes of old with modern
cutting edge design and materials.
The answer is 2D as 3D. This pendant light is cut in 2D Perspex, following
the silhouette of a traditional chandelier. The result is a three
dimensional chandelier which would look at home either in the most
sleek, modern apartment or period property.
Fringe Benefits
Weve admired the metres of minimal white sheers which adorn the glass
fronts in Phillipe Starck designed hotels such as the Sanderson and
the St Martins Lane. Next on the radar for the best dressed windows
this autumn, are full length fringes. No longer the finishing touch
for cowboys or Pocahontas; 2m fringing can be used as a room divider,
or a modern take on the bead curtain in a doorway.
