Wayne Broadhurst, who was killed in a triple stabbing incident in Uxbridge on Monday afternoon, was an employee of the borough’s waste contractor, Greener Ealing Ltd. Mr Broadhurst, 49, was walking his dog near Midhurst Gardens when he was fatally attacked. Two other individuals—a 14-year-old boy and 45-year-old Shahzad Farrukh—were also injured, one seriously.

Mr Broadhurst had worked full-time for the council owned company since 2019, serving the borough as a waste services worker. In a statement, his employer described him as “a well-respected and dedicated member of our team who made a real contribution to the work we do and to the residents we serve.” The organisation, which provides sustainable waste, recycling, and street cleansing services on behalf of Ealing Council, added: “Wayne was a greatly valued friend and colleague. This is a devastating loss.”

His family echoed those sentiments, describing Mr Broadhurst as “a devoted and hardworking man who spent his life serving his community.” They added, “His love for animals showed the gentle heart behind his strong work ethic, and his passion for Liverpool FC was something he loved to share with others. His absence is felt profoundly, and his memory will continue to live on in our community.”

The incident occurred around 5pm on Monday 27 October. Emergency services responded to reports of a violent disturbance, and Mr Broadhurst was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Farrukh remains in hospital with life-changing injuries, while the teenager has been discharged.

Afghan national, Safi Dawood, 22, of Midhurst Gardens, has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and was remanded into custody ahead of a hearing at the Old Bailey.

On Tuesday evening, around 100 residents gathered near the scene to hold a vigil for Mr Broadhurst. Flowers were laid and candles lit in tribute to a man described by many as quietly generous and deeply committed to his community.

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association issued a statement urging the public to treat the incident as a crime rather than a reflection of any community. Darius Nasimi, Head of Funding and Partnerships, said, “This tragic event should not be used as an excuse to tighten immigration policy or fuel hostility towards refugees. The vast majority of Afghans and refugees in the UK are law-abiding, hardworking people rebuilding their lives and contributing positively to our society.”

Greener Ealing has asked for privacy for Mr Broadhurst’s family as they come to terms with the loss. The company continues to support staff and colleagues affected by the tragedy.
