Wandsworth Leads Way In Digital Healthcare

With GPs introducing online prescription services

Wandsworth patients are some of the first in the country to make the switch to online healthcare services, with new digital options going ‘live’.

The government wants everyone in England to have access to online healthcare services and many GP practices in Wandsworth Borough are introducing electronic prescriptions, which will give patients new choices as to where and how they get their prescriptions dispensed.

A free NHS repeat prescription service from mail order pharmacy Pharmacy2U is one of the new ‘e-services’ being made available to local patients.

An independent survey, commissioned by Pharmacy2U, revealed that 69% of people in the London region would like to manage their healthcare online.

Julian Harrison, Director at Pharmacy2U comments: “The government has set a target for all patients in England to be offered digital services by 2015 – and there is a clear appetite for it. In our survey, one in five patients in London said they found it difficult to get to a pharmacy to claim a prescription and 19% of those on repeat medication said they had run out because they’d forgotten to re-order it.

“Our free mail-order service is now available in the Borough of Wandsworth. It is a useful option for patients who don’t find a traditional high street pharmacy a convenient choice – and is proving popular with people who work long hours, the elderly and housebound, and busy commuters.”
