Home Office Appoints New Conservator

Mr Nigel Ware has lived in Putney and Wimbledon over the past 44 years

The Home Secretary has offered Mr Nigel Ware the position of Home Office Appointed Conservator for the ensuing three year period, effective from the 14th March 2018 and he has accepted.

This follows a recruitment process carried out by a selection committee of the WPCC which adhered to the spirit of the Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments to Public Bodies (2012) as updated by a review of the Public Appointments Process conducted by Sir Gerry Grimstone the recommendations of which came into effect on 1st January 2017. The WPCC Board recommended two appointable candidates to the Secretary of State.

Mr Ware, a chartered accountant, has considerable charity and public service experience, particularly in the areas of finance and corporate governance.

In taking up his position Mr Ware stated: “I am delighted to have been appointed a Conservator of Wimbledon and Putney Commons by the Home Secretary. I have lived in Wimbledon for nearly 35 years and prior to that in Putney for 9 years. I have enjoyed using the Commons over those years, firstly as a walker and latterly also as a cyclist. I look forward to working with the other members of the new Board and helping to drive forward the stewardship and management of the commons over the coming years.”

Mr Ware takes up his position immediately and the newly elected Conservators take up office on the 4th April 2018. The new Board will then be starting with a full complement of eight Conservators.
