66,000 residents should have received Wimbledon & Putney Commons election forms

Voting remains open in the elections for the Board of Conservators for Wimbledon and Putney Commons. If you are one of the 66,000 people eligible to vote you have until 5pm on 25 February.

At the time of writing the facility to vote online was not functioning but you can still cast your vote by post. Electors should have received their ballot papers by now but if you believe you should have received ballot papers but have not contact Paula Graystone, Deputy Clerk and Ranger on 020 8788 7655 or e-mail paula@wpcc.org.uk.

Wimbledon and Putney Commons are overseen by a Board of eight Conservators and it is their role to ensure that Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common (the Commons) are managed and conserved in accordance with the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act 1871.

Every three years there is a requirement to hold an election for the five elected Conservators who sit alongside the three Conservators appointed by Government Departments. There are ten candidates standing who are listed below:

There is another opportunity to meet the candidates
on Wednesday 7 February, in the Lower Hall, Sacred Heart Church, Edge Hill, SW19 4LU, starting at 7.00pm. The meeting has been organised by The Wimbledon Society.

If you live within three quarters of a mile of the perimeter of Wimbledon Common, measured by the most direct route, or within the old Parish of Putney as it was in 1871 (see map), your household will be subject to an additional Levy on top of any Council Tax. This Levy is used solely for the purpose of managing Wimbledon and Putney Commons and is collected on behalf of the Commons by the appropriate local Council – Kingston Upon Thames, Merton or Wandsworth. You will only be able to vote if your name appears against an address within the Levy paying area (as defined above) and you have registered on the most recent Electoral Register. The February 2018 election uses the Register of Electors published by the respective Councils on 1st December 2017. If you do not know whether you are registered, you should enquire with your Council’s electoral registration office.

The result will be determined by the numbers of votes cast as certified by Electoral Reform Services and will be announced by the Returning Officer shortly after the Closing Date which is 5.00pm on the 28 February 2018.
