Matt Aldridge was born in the West Mid and now works there
May 7, 2026
A West Middlesex University Hospital staff member with lifelong ties to the hospital has spoken out in support of the Hospital Next Door campaign, which is raising funds to enhance the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC).
Matt Alldridge, Patient Administrator in the Haematology Oncology Day Unit, was born at West Middlesex, had his children there, and has worked at the hospital for six years. He now supports patients receiving chemotherapy, many of whom spend six or seven hours at a time undergoing treatment.
“Patients can be with us for long periods – often when they’re feeling tired or unwell – so the environment around them really matters,” Matt said. “More space, natural light and a calmer setting can make a real difference to how people feel during lengthy chemo sessions.”
The new Oncology Unit within the DTEC will expand capacity from 10 to 16 treatment chairs, each located in more spacious bays with natural light and views over green space. Funds raised through the Hospital Next Door campaign will help provide specialist chairs and other patient‑focused enhancements, creating a more comfortable and positive environment for those receiving care.
Matt added, “Every donation, no matter the size, shows our patients that their community is behind them and has a direct impact on the care we provide.”
The campaign, led by hospital charity CW+, invites local people to support the project by adding their name and a personal message to a virtual wall on the CW+ website. Every donation contributes directly to improvements that benefit patients at West Middlesex University Hospital.
Donors giving £250 or more will also have their name, or the name of someone they wish to honour, included on a Founders’ Wall inside the new building — a lasting tribute to those who helped make the centre possible.
