Council announces "significant steps forward" for the improvement of the Alton area
The expert team has been tasked with working alongside the respective local communities and Wandsworth Council to set out a vision for their assigned long-term improvement project, focussing on changes to the physical environment.
GVA and Studio Egret West will act as masterplanners for the Roehampton improvement project in the Alton area, which is bounded by Clarence Lane, Roehampton Lane, Holybourne Avenue and the Richmond Park Golf Course.
In addittion a team has been recruited for the Winstanley and York Road improvement project in Battersea will see GVA and Levitt Bernstein act as masterplanners.
Both teams – made up of experienced architects, urban designers, town planners and development surveyors – will begin by researching their area’s buildings, places and spaces, taking guidance from what residents have told the council to date during consultation exercises and also incorporating new suggestions.
The masterplanning process, which is expected to take six to nine months to complete, will involve consultation and engagement with all community members that want a say over the type and scale of improvement work they want to see carried out.
Leader of Wandsworth Council, Councillor Ravi Govindia, said: “So far local people have told us their ideas and opinions on future changes to these parts of Battersea and Roehampton – but now is the time to turn these suggestions into tangible plans.
“With the continued help of residents in these areas, each masterplanning team will spend several months putting these plans together in order to establish an exciting long-term vision of what the areas will look like once improvement work has taken place.
“Both projects will be developed with the engagement and involvement of the communities that will benefit from the changes so we welcome input from all local people who want to share their views.”
