Speed Trap Operators Get Younger And Younger

As primary pupils across the borough catch speeding motorists by their schools

Last week was National Road Safety Week, and the council and police worked with around a thousand local schoolchildren to catch speeding motorists and encourage safe parking around schools.

Year five and six students took part in Junior Community Roadwatch events with the police, and caught 40 drivers breaking the speed limit. They joined PC Andy Smith, PC Paul Dodson, PC Jon Datta, PCSO Howard Robinson and PCSO Lorraine Mumford and used a speed gun to nab drivers going too fast.

Meanwhile council road safety officer Gemma Davidson and parking officer Adam Westwood visited ten borough schools during the week to remind parents to park safely during drop-off and pick up time.

This is part of an ongoing council campaign against dangerous parking and vehicle idling outside schools, with enforcement officers patrolling schools until Christmas.
