A second man has been charged after an incident in which another man was shot by police in Wimbledon during what the Met described as a “pre-planned operation” into cash in transit robberies. The charges follow the arrest of two men on Monday, (3rd December) in Lacock Close, Wimbledon.
23 year old Brooklyn McFarlane, who was shot during the incident, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday and, following an appearance before Wimbledon Magistrates the following day, was bailed to appear before Kingston Crown court on Wednesday (December 5).
Mc Farlane lives on St John’s Drive, in Earlsfield, which is the same road as 23 year old Abdirahman Mohomad Omar, who was also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery on Tuesday, (4th December). Omar was remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, 21 December.
Police cordon roads in SW19 on 3rd December
The incident happened at about 8.10am on Monday morning in Lacock Close near Haydons Road. It is understood the men had been aiming to rob a cash transit van near the Sainsbury store in Haydon Road SW19.
During the course of the Met's "proactive operation" the second man was shot by police and taken by ambulance to hospital. His condition is not said to be life-threatening.
The Police added that, "The Met's Director of Professional Standards have been informed. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation."
