Wandsworth Council Leader Names His Team

New cabinet team unveiled by Ravi Govindia

The annual council meeting takes place on June 9 when Wandsworth’s 60 newly elected councillors will be asked to re-elect Cllr Govindia as leader.

The total number of portfolio holding cabinet posts has been reduced from nine to seven as part of the council’s efforts to streamline decision making and reduce costs.

Cllr Govindia said: “This team has a vision for an even stronger Wandsworth where local people have the great services they need and more opportunities to get on in life.

“Over the next four years we will focus on the things that really matter to local people – jobs, affordable housing and investing in great schools where our children can flourish. We will also keep our promise to maintain a low council tax so every household has more money to spend on the things they need.

“These are exciting times for the Brighter Borough. The incredible potential of Nine Elms and Wandsworth Town is now being realised and we have launched new services, like our Work Match recruitment team, to ensure local people share in this vital growth. Transport, including bringing the Tube to Battersea, will remain a priority.

“We will also work with local people to regenerate the Winstanley and York Road estates in Battersea and the Alton in Roehampton. We are also focusing a package of health, employment and youth mentoring services on these communities to help them prosper and reach their full potential.”

	Jonathan Cook is set to continue as deputy leader and would be cabinet member for community services.
	James Maddan would remain in post as cabinet member for adult care and health.
	Kathy Tracey would continue as cabinet member for education and children services.
	Guy Senior would retain responsibility for finance and corporate resources while
	Paul Ellis would remain in charge of the housing portfolio.
	Steffi Sutters is set to be promoted to cabinet as chief whip and with responsibility for communications. She would replace Alex Jacob who lost his seat in Bedford Ward.
