Wandsworth’s cycle hire docking stations used 2,500 times a day
The Barclay’s Cycle Hire zone was extended into Wandsworth in December last year after a council led campaign.
There are now around sixty docking stations across the north of the borough and usage has increased every month since the scheme launched.
The council wants the cycle hire zone to extend further across the borough and is calling on TfL to bring forward the next round of investment.
Transport spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said:
“These popular blue bikes are now a common sight across Battersea, Putney and Wandsworth Town. We’re delighted so many local people are embracing the scheme.
“They’re a great alternative to using a car, help to reduce traffic jams, reduce pollution and ease overcrowding on our tubes, trains and buses. In many cases it’s the cheapest and most convenient option.
He finished saying:
“Bringing cycle hire to Wandsworth is just one part of our Travel Choices campaign which is all about improving the range and quality of Wandsworth transport network. We need to develop every mode of travel and councils have a key role to play in making the case for new investment.”
