Top Garden Award For Local Hospice

Royal Trinity Hospice wins 'London Hospices Garden Plate' for the third year running

The gardening team at Royal Trinity Hospice triumphed at the London Garden Society awards winning the top award, the London Hospices Garden Plate, for the third year in a row. The team also went home with three further prizes in the hospice category last week.

The London Garden Society endeavours to ensure ‘Our city is beautiful with our gardens, our squares and our spectacular horticultural displays’. At their annual awards ceremony, Trinity received a gold medal for their large garden and two silver medals for their smaller garden and patio area. After accumulating the highest total across these categories, the London Hospices Garden Plate 2016 was awarded to Trinity for having the overall best hospice garden in London.

Terry Salter, Head Gardener at Royal Trinity Hospice, said:
‘I’m really proud to have won this award three years in succession. This is a personal achievement for me and I am also so pleased for the recognition it has given our hard-working volunteers. The judges came to visit our garden on the hottest day of the year and they got to see first-hand the way in which our patients, their relatives and the staff use and enjoy the garden. It really is a pleasure to see the hospice garden being used for the purpose intended.’

A team of 12 volunteers led by Head Gardener, Terry Salter, help to maintain the two-acres of garden at Trinity. The ornamental garden comprises of mixed shrub borders, lawns, ponds, meadow areas and sculptures. The gardens are available for patients and visitors to enjoy throughout the seasons.
