London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance and Chiswick RNLI have come to the rescue of a man who was stuck in mud on the riverbank in Fulham this morning.

The Brigade say that the man had fallen into mud near Bishops Park and its fire boat and Chiswick RNLI were called to help him around 10am.

Chiswick RNLI reported on their Twitter feed @ChiswickRNLI: "Crew tasked to assist with extraction of a male with spinal injuries from the foreshore at the base of a wall."

Around 11.30 am the Fire Brigade issued an update on their Twitter feed @LondonFire: " Firefighters on our fire boat have rescued the man who was stuck in mud in Fulham and he's now being looked after by London Ambulance."

London Ambulance confirm that they were called around 9.50am to a "fall from height" in Bishops Park.

The rescue team consisted of an ambulance crew, duty officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team, who specialise in working in difficult environments and the Air Ambulance.

A spokesman for London Ambulance says that a man aged 54, was treated at the scene for a leg injury and back pain, and was taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in Tooting.

This incident is the second time within a month that the rescue services have had to help someone who had fallen into the river in the same location.

On November 14 at just before 2am, Chiswick RNLI along with Hammersmith and Fulham Police, the Metropolitan Police helicopter and London Ambulance Service were called to rescue a man who had fallen in the water about 100 metres upstream of Putney Bridge on the Fulham side.

When the lifeboat arrived the onshore police had thrown the an a life ring and he was clinging to that. The man, who had been with his girlfriend, was pulled from the water uninjured after what appeared to be some hi jinks that went wrong.

Afterwards Chiswick RNLI said they were very pleased that there had been a good outcome, as the man could have got into serous difficulties.
