Transport for London to carry out vital engineering works
As the festive season approaches Transport for London (TfL) prepares for their annual 24-hour day of maintenance and project works across its network on Christmas Day.
Engineers will be working around the clock on Christmas Day to carry out track renewal work at Earl’s Court and signal installation works and associated equipment for the Sub-Surface Upgrade.
Routine engineering works will also be taking place across the entire network, with maintenance trains moving regularly to transport engineers and materials to various locations including the Northern line between Stockwell and Morden. As well as tunnel re-lining between Bond Street and Baker Street stations.
Each year the annual Christmas Day closure of the Tube, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, Tramlink and London Buses is used by TfL to get ahead with major engineering works and upgrading the operating system. Train depots and bus garages will also be staffed when passenger services are closed and work to improve the network will continue throughout the festive period.

“Christmas Day is a great opportunity for us to carry out essential engineering works across our entire network without disrupting passenger journeys during the rest of the year. While many Londoners and our customers tuck into their Christmas lunch and other festive treats, our engineers will be working around the clock to help deliver a more reliable and frequent Tube service for all our customers through these vital works.”
