Coronation Gardens Play Area Closes for Makeover
Will be shut for six weeks for work on £173,000 improvement scheme

A Southfields play area will be closed for six weeks to enable a major refurbishment to take place.
The playground in Coronation Gardens is being upgraded as part of a £173,000 project which will deliver new play equipment alongside a series of biodiversity improvements in and around the playground.
The area was cordoned off on 22 January and will remain unavailable for six weeks.
The designs are based on feedback received during a public consultation.
Coronation Gardens is a historic Edwardian park with formal path network. There is a central ring of mature London planes, an avenue of horse chestnuts, and another line of planes and fruiting orchard was recently added. It is overlooked by two listed buildings, Riversdale School and Tiffany Heights.

It dates back to 1902 and commemorates the coronation of King Edward VII in August 1902. It was donated to the people of Wandsworth by Sir William Lancaster, a businessman, philanthropist and politician who served as the second Mayor of Wandsworth between 1901 and 1902 and who also co-founded the Putney School of Art and Design
During the closure period, children and families can visit the nearby playgrounds in King George’s Park or the Fernwood Playground in Albert Drive. For more information email parks@enablelc.org.
