raising funds towards the urgently needed £100,000 to mend the Oxford Road hut
1st East Putney Scout group thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas Fun Day recently after a year's absence due to the group's Centenary celebrations earlier this year. As always there were plenty of the old favourite games for the children to play and to win toys, 'Beat the Buzzer', 'Splat the Rat' and Ten-Pin Bowling to name a few. There were also lots of prizes to be won playing the lucky dip, children's tombola, guess the snowballs and pick-a-nail games.
Parents also had fun trying their luck on the adult tombola, the £50 note game and of course the big raffle. During the festivities, the cake stall provided refreshments, selling home-made cakes provided by the parents, mince pies, doughnuts and hot spiced mulled wine, plus a children's version of this festive favourite.
The day was enjoyable, but also completely exhausting! So... the group would like to thank everyone who helped put such a successful event together, including the leaders for giving so much of their time and the parents for their help in providing cakes and bottle donations.
All money raised will go towards the 'Raise the Roof Appeal' which is our current fundraising project. The group needs to raise £100,000 to replace the fragile and leaky roof. Ron Holloway (Group Scout Leader) was astounded by the success of the event saying, "Today has been magnificent and I would especially like to thank our leaders who manage to donate so much of their time to Scouting, whilst still juggling jobs and family life. We are overwhelmed with their commitment to 1st East Putney. All this hard work has raised in excess of £700 towards our roof appeal. We have also received some very generous donations from parents that will take the day's total to nearly £1,000. Thank you for all donations received, bottles, cakes and money, it is all very much appreciated".
The Scout Group have raised over £12,500 since the launch of the Scout Appeal in May, and many more fundraising events are planned next year, beginning with carol singing at the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre before Christmas.
