Southfield Primary School's annual fair promises to be music to your ears
Southfield Primary School’s Sunflower Fete will be music to your ears this summer, with ‘music’ being the main theme for the day’s activities. So, for a fun day out for all the family plus the opportunity to help raise money for a good cause, pay a visit to Turnham Green on Saturday 20th June 2009, from 11am until 4pm.
With music in mind, children are invited to dress in something musically inspired for the fancy dress parade which kicks off the fete at 11am. Whether it’s a favourite musician, a character from a favourite song, or even a musical instrument, there will be a prize for the most inventive costume, judged by a special celebrity guest who will open the fete.
From bouncy castles and a carousel to face painting and fine food there’s something to amuse all ages. Little ones will enjoy showing off their artistic talent in Craft Corner or trying their hand at traditional games such as hook-a-duck and panning for gold, while older children will love the giant slide and old favourites such as skittles and a coconut shy.
If you’re looking to bag a bargain, pay a visit to a variety of stalls selling everything from second hand books to plants and flowers and do not miss the auction where you’ll be able to bid for some very special and interesting lots.
And if all that bargain hunting makes you thirsty you can head for the tea tent or the Pimms tent for some refreshment where you can watch the world go by, to the sound of the jazz quartet. Southfield will also be showcasing its own musical talent throughout the day.
Indulge your tastebuds with a selection of fabulous food, including burgers from local butcher Mackens, and an eclectic mix of food stalls selling food from around the world – all courtesy of the culinary genius of the school’s parents.
This year the event will be raising money for music, science and arts workshops at the school and it is hoped that this year’s profits may even raise in excess of £11,000, generated by last year’s event.
Charles Morris, head teacher at Southfield Primary School says, “The Sunflower Fete is a much anticipated date on the school calendar. It’s a day when the whole school as well as the wider community can join together to help raise money for various school projects. Paramount to the fete’s success is that it is a lot of fun, it’s a great family day out and there is something for everyone.”
