Significant Traffic Disruption Expected This Sunday
TfL advising avoiding driving due to likely delays caused by cycling event

Transport for London (TfL) are advising motorists not to attempt to drive across much of west and south west London this Sunday (31 July). Road closures for a major cycle race means that serious traffic delays are expected in Hammersmith, Fulham, Chiswick, Brentford, Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Putney.
Roads are being closed from 5am for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic and Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 and 100 sportives. In some cases they will not be reopened until 8pm. Thirteen bridges will be closed for part of the day, including Westminster Bridge, Chiswick Bridge, Tower Bridge and Battersea Bridge.
The worst delays are expected between 11am and 2.30pm but after that point there should be an improvement in West London with the reopening of the A4 Great West Road, Burlington Lane (A316) and Chiswick Bridge. The A4 will remain open east bound all day. Heavy traffic is likely to continue later in the evening in south west London as the race returns to central London though that area. Putney Bridge is expected to reopen at 7.30pm.
The day’s races are likely to draw large crowds particularly after it was announced that the recent winner of the Tour de France, Chris Froome is to participate.
Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport at TfL, said: “We’re asking everyone to use the information we’re giving and plan their journeys on Prudential RideLondon weekend to make the most of the events and all London has to offer.”
Tfl say that the road closures will affect more than the immediate route of the events. Drivers are advised, wherever possible, to avoid areas near the event routes and to ensure more time for journeys. Buses around the events will be on diversion or will finish early due to road closures.
