Increased River Bus Service from Putney to Canary Wharf

MBNA Thames Clippers introduces express services from Putney & Wandsworth

In response to customer demand and following the introduction of two new boats last year, MBNA Thames Clippers is increasing its service between Putney and Canary Wharf in the mornings and evenings. From 22 February 2016, the morning capacity will double between the key commuting times of 7.25-7.55 with the additional services from the west into central London and on to London Bridge and Canary Wharf allowing a convenient and comfortable journey from Putney to Canary Wharf in just 50 minutes.

MBNA Thames Clippers’ RB6 route will feature a mix of stopping and new express services to both London Bridge and Canary Wharf. Additional sailings on the route will also include some sailings starting part-way along the route at the new Plantation Wharf Pier during peak travel times to ensure sufficient capacity for stops such as Chelsea and Cadogan that typically reach capacity with the current timetable.

“Our route between Putney and Canary Wharf has been going from strength to strength, and the arrival of our new boats has certainly enhanced the customer experience. This growing popularity of the route has led to some sailings reaching capacity,” said Sean Collins, MBNA Thames Clippers’ CEO and co-founder.

“We took this rise in demand as an opportunity to ask our regular customers what changes they would most like to see to the service. Using this feedback, our new enhanced timetable was created.”

In order to accommodate these changes, there will also be slight amends to the MBNA Thames Clippers RB2 route which travels between St George’s Wharf (Vauxhall), Tate Britain at Millbank and the Tate Modern at Bankside. The weekday RB2 timetable will be changing by 10 minutes – all weekday sailings will be 10 minutes earlier than they currently run. The weekend timetable will remain unchanged.

MBNA Thames Clippers surveyed 740 customers:
- 78 per cent of respondents have used the service for at least a year and most since start of service
- 40 per cent of respondents said that they would use the service more if there were more direct morning sailings to London Bridge and Canary Wharf
- 43 per cent of respondents said they would use the RB6 service more if there were more direct sailings in the evening from London Bridge and Canary Wharf, 1900 onwards was a popular option
