with the appointment of Angus Somerville
The Chairman and the Board of Management at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) are delighted to announce that Mr Angus Somerville has replaced Peter Franklyn as Chief Executive, following Mr Franklyn’s stepping down in early February.
Angus Somerville joins the RHN from his previous role as Chief Executive of the male cancer charity, Orchid, to which he was appointed in 2003, following a full career in the Royal Navy.
Mr Somerville said, “The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability has a well-established reputation as a leading provider of rehabilitation and long term care for those affected by brain injury or disease, and I am privileged to be part of such an important medical charity. My aim will be to build on the RHN’s success by further raising awareness about these difficult conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for those in our care, and securing much needed support to continue our vital work.”
Peter Franklyn leaves the RHN after more than eight years as Chief Executive saying, “Simply put, the timing is right. The RHN is well placed to allow such a changeover to take place at this time; there have been significant advances during recent years, and the hospital and charity continue to thrive on meeting the challenges of complex and profound neurological disabilities”.
Mr Somerville joins at an exciting time with the RHN’s annual Brain Awareness initiatives just about to start. This year planned events include a ‘Showcase’ day for external visitors (13th March) and a specialist conference highlighting the relevance and benefits of recreation and leisure sessions to those with complex neuro-disabilities (“Taking Leisure Seriously”, 16th March).
