Recent quality sampling has shown that around 14 per cent of what residents put in their mixed recycling was “contamination” which should not have been included.
Putting the wrong things in your recycling increases the cost of sorting the materials and too much contamination can potentially lead to whole lorry loads of recycling being disposed of.
