A Putney High School girl wins Wandsworth Musician of the Year for a second year running. Violinist Anna Brown, who is in Year 10 at Putney High School, was named Wandsworth Musician of the Year 2017 in the Grand Final of the competition which took place on Wednesday 17 January 2018.
Last year another Putney High School pupil, Bethany Reeves, also took the top spot at the awards.
Anna performed Tambourin Chinois by Kreisler and Sicilienne by Von Paradis during the competition. "I felt a bit nervous beforehand but I love playing and really appreciated the chance to perform. I was delighted to win as there were many great performances. I am looking forward to playing at the Mayor's Charity Gala Concert," Anna told us.
Angus Merryon, Director of Music at Putney, said: "Anna is one of our finest young musicians and a past winner of many competitions and Festivals in London. She is a member of all the string ensembles and orchestras at Putney and also plays the piano and sings to grade 8 standard; we are extremely proud of her."
Anna has been learning the violin since she was 7 years old and is hoping to pursue a career in music performance.
