New Local Policing Model Starts Next Week
As the first significant changes to public access are implemented
On Monday 24th June Wandsworth Police will be making significant changes to their Public Access provision.
* Lavender Hill Police Station will be open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
* Wandsworth Police Station will operate a front counter service from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays.
* Battersea Police Station front counter will close permanently
* Front counters at St. Mary’s Church Café in Putney & Tooting Police Station and will convert to Contact Points where members of the public can meet local police officers at fixed times each week to receive the key services they would otherwise get at a front counter. This includes seeking advice, reporting crime and requesting future contact from an officer or staff member depending on their needs.
Contact points across London, including Tooting and Putney, will all open from 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday afternoons.
* Neighbourhood Policing Teams will continue to be based at, and patrol from, Tooting Police Station, Lavender Hill Police Station and Jubilee House in Putney High Street.
Apart from visiting police stations front counters or contact points, there are a number of other ways to contact us. In an emergency always dial 999. However, in a non emergency situation, you can contact the police on line at www.met.police.uk or telephone them on 101 (the national non emergency number). The police will be happy to make an appointment to visit you at a time and place convenient to yourself.
Chief Inspector Steve McSorley said:
“For some time now we have seen footfall into our front counters fall and these changes allow us to release officers onto patrol rather than have them waiting in buildings for callers who may never come. We are not changing where our police officers are based and these changes, along with new recruits now being posted to us, will make a real difference to our presence on the streets.”
