Local Resident On A MIssion To Encourage Grassroot Sport Participation

Nick Spenceley has launched play4ateam.com to match teams and players!

For the last 10 years I have got up on cold and wet Sunday mornings to run around muddy pitches in South West London wishing I’d gone for the mid-week run that I’d promised myself the last time I pulled on my boots. Add this to the inevitable bruises and blisters and it all seems a little crazy. But I love it and I’m on a mission!

My mission is to increase grassroots sports participation and together with a business partner and fellow Sunday morning enthusiast, www.play4ateam.com has recently been set up to make sport more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Its easy to talk about the obvious health benefits of taking part in sport at a time when obesity and heart disease are regularly in the news (the UK has the dubious honour of having the highest obesity levels in Europe with predictions that 13 million adults will be obese by 2010) but in a nutshell you feel good after sport – its all to do with the endorphins I’m told. Add that to the social aspects gained such as feeling part of a team, making friends and having a cheeky drink afterwards.

It’s not just about teams or playing your chosen sport either. Along with helping people find playing partners, we can help you get involved in coaching or refereeing for real, rather than from the comfort of your armchair. You may even be surprised by the numerous volunteering opportunities out there to help with the smooth running of many sporting events.

So what do you have to do? It’s simple really. Whatever your standard of sporting prowess, if you are looking to take up a new sport, change teams or get involved again, take a look at www.play4ateam.com and request to join one of the teams or playing partners looking for new people. If you cannot find a match, add your details and people will find you.

And finally, before starting any exercise program I’d recommend that you consult your doctor for a check up.

Sport should be fun and I hope you enjoy the site.
