MyWandsworth Campaign Launches With Poster Competition
Calling on all primary school artists in the borough to enter a borough-wide poster competition

MyWandsworth encourages people to take pride in the borough and help keep it clean and tidy.
All primary-aged school children are invited to design a poster showing their favourite part of the borough, somewhere they are really proud of; this could be a park, their street or the place they most like.
The aim is to celebrate what’s great about the area; highlighting that any littering, even if it’s dropping a sweet wrapper, is unacceptable.
The competition is open to three age categories, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-11 year olds, with prizes kindly donated by council contractors, Continental Landscapes, responsible for keeping the borough’s streets and town centres clean and tidy.
The winning entries will be turned into posters and displayed across the whole borough, as well as appearing in Brightside, the council’s magazine.
First prize winners will receive a £20 book voucher, with the second and third prize winners receiving a £10 book voucher. The schools of the winning pupils will each receive £200 to spend on an activity which supports the aims of the campaign.
A spokesperson for the Council said: "This is just one of the many ways for residents to get involved in the MyWandsworth campaign, which encourages people to take pride in the local area; something that the vast majority of us do. Sadly, an inconsiderate minority think they can get away with spoiling our borough.
They can’t. The council’s enforcement teams creak down hard on people who fly-tip the borough".
More than 10,100 fines were issued between April 2017 to January 2019 for fly-tipping and littering offences.
Councillor Steffi Sutters, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Open Spaces said: “We want to send a message to litter louts that what they do is unacceptable. This is all about celebrating what’s best about Wandsworth. I encourage young people across the whole borough to get behind our campaign and am really looking forward to seeing their poster competition entries.”
Young people can enter the competition via their school (if their child’s school is taking part), otherwise entries can be submitted online.

Primary schools wanting to take part in the competition can email mywandsworth@wandsworth.gov.uk and the council will provide entry forms for all pupils.
Residents can do their bit and help keep the borough clean and tidy by disposing of rubbish responsibly:
• Leave your waste and recycling bags out on the correct day each week. See www.wandsworth.gov.uk/waste to check your collection day.
• Residents wanting bulky items collected can book it online at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/specialcollections
• The Council will remove waste for a modest fee. If households choose a licensed private contractor, instead they must make sure they get a proper receipt.
• Report fly-tips on the council website www.wandsworth.gov.uk/flytipping
• Pass on evidence that could help identify a fly-tipper in confidence to flytipwitness@wandsworth.gov.uk
