National Highways has confirmed that its ongoing refurbishment of the M4 elevated section above the A4 Great West Road in Brentford remains on schedule, with the current phase of works expected to finish by Saturday 29 November.
The flyover, which carries tens of thousands of vehicles daily between west London and the motorway network, is supported by reinforced concrete pillars located in the central reservation of the A4.
Since July, engineers have been working on three pillars east of Windmill Road, installing additional steel reinforcement and applying new concrete to extend their lifespan and ensure continued safety.
Scaffolding around the repaired pillars has been removed, as crews complete final checks and prepare to shift operations west of Windmill Road. National Highways says this is part of a long-term maintenance programme for the elevated structure, with periodic works expected in future years.
The outside lane in both directions on the A4 between Boston Manor Road and Ealing Road will remain closed in both directions until 29 November . The Windmill Road crossing over the A4 will stay closed to vehicles, while pedestrian access across the west crossing is not available.
Local bus services may experience delays during peak periods. The E2 bus is currently diverted along Windmill Road until 29 November:
National Highways says it remains committed to maintaining the safety and integrity of the viaduct, which plays a vital role in separating motorway traffic from local roads and supporting west London’s transport infrastructure.
The 50-year-old elevated section of the M4 carries tens-of-thousands of journeys in and out of west London every day and helps keep motorway traffic separate from local roads. Highways England is repairing some of the reinforced concrete pillars which support the structure from the A4 Great West Road’s central reservation. It will need to continue this work periodically over the coming years.
