The new “Pure in the Park” café at Gunnersbury Park & Museum will officially open on 5 January 2026, following years of closure after a devastating fire and subsequent delays in reconstruction.
Gunnersbury Park & Museum has confirmed that its new café, developed in partnership with Ealing-based sustainable food supplier The Pure Food Co., will welcome visitors from early January. The venue, located beside the museum entrance, promises a family-friendly menu ranging from breakfast bagels and mezze boxes to Smash burgers, alongside spacious indoor and outdoor seating next to the children’s play area.
Pure Food Co says that its ethos is one ofof environmental sustainability and social responsibility and it will beredistributing surplus food to charities and food banks, and working with the museum’s community garden to incorporate locally grown produce. Revenue generated will directly support the upkeep of the park and museum.
The reopening marks the end of a difficult chapter for Gunnersbury Park. The previous café was destroyed by fire on 29 May 2020, a blaze that came just months after the park had reopened following major refurbishment works.
The fire also threatened historic artefacts: firefighters managed to save two 19th-century Rothschild carriages stored nearby, preventing further cultural loss.
Although plans to rebuild were quickly announced, the project faced multiple delays including those related to planning approvals and building regulations with final clearance only received last month. The rebuild required advanced fire prevention and security systems, developed in consultation with local authorities and safety experts. The base structure was completed in 2024, but fitting out the café and securing a long-term operator took additional time.
