Putney’s MP Condemns Local Violence

As she meets with senior police & local community representatives this afternoon

Putney’s MP, Justine Greening today strongly condemned the looting and violence which took place in Clapham Junction last night when rioters clashed with the police and ransacked many local businesses, and further disturbances in Putney & Roehampton.

Speaking earlier this morning, Justine said:
"Rioting and looting is absolutely unacceptable. These people are a disgrace with their complete disregard for our community and law abiding people’s businesses & property. They seek to undermine the rule of law and everything good that our community and country stands for.”

“I've been in regular contact with David Musker, our Borough Commander, and local Police, Inspector Steve Allan since the violence started in London over the weekend. Putney and Roehampton saw some disruption last night though not on the same scale seen at Clapham Junction.  I have been in regular contact with the police and I am meeting with senior local police officers this afternoon to ensure everything is done to make sure there are no further disturbances.”

“The police have a difficult and dangerous job to do and they have my full backing; I hope to see each and every looter identified and prosecuted."

Justine is attending a special meeting with senior police officers and other local representatives later this afternoon and will update residents further after that meeting.
