Falcons School for Girls Support Local Charity

FiSH based in Barnes was selected as their Charity of the Year

Pupils at the Putney school placed over 70 suggestions into the ‘Pupil Voice Box’ for the panel of pupils, parents and teachers to consider before selecting the final nomination, FiSH Neighbourhood Care.

FiSH, the Barnes-based charity supported by the school, aims to inspire a caring community to combat loneliness and social isolation in older and vulnerable people living in the area. The girls are working with the charity to offer friendship, support and help in their own community, whilst also testing their entrepreneurial skills to raise much-needed funds.

Falcons School for Girls has already started to connect with the charity on the topic of remembrance through learning about the First World War. In lessons the pupils have spent time listening to the memories of relatives of local residents gathered by the FiSH charity, and writing descriptions of life at the front. A group of Year Six girls, joined by members of the Chamber Choir, led a service of Remembrance at St Margaret’s Church, to which the charity service users were invited.

Falcons School for Girls Headmistress, Mrs Sophia Ashworth Jones commented: “We are delighted to be working with FiSH Neighbourhood Care. It is such a great cause and there are many ways in which the school can support the charity.

“It was inspiring to see FiSH and the pupils working together on the World War One project. The pupils approached the task with touching maturity and some girls have been able to research the war stories of their own family members. We are looking forward to seeing how the relationship develops.”
