Don’t Dump That!

What goes around comes around…

Do you ever see a perfectly good sofa left on the pavement or something in a skip and think “what a waste”? Have you ever had to throw away an unwanted item which somebody else could easily have used?

Register on Don’t Dump That (www.dontdumpthat.com) and help keep these things out of landfill sites. It’s a non-profit web initiative which provides people with a medium for donating old unwanted things to people in their local area. The site also has a discussion board and a variety of green links.

All you need to do is register at your local web forum (there is one for Wandsworth borough and one for Hammersmith and Fulham) and when you clear out your garage and find something you don’t need, post a message about it to the other members of the forum: somebody out there might need it. No money changes hands, but when did that ever bring happiness? If you check the site regularly, somebody is bound to throw away something that you need.

This way, useful things get reused and recirculated, less carbon gets pumped into our flimsy atmosphere and a little bit of good will gets shared out in your area. Sign up, it’s dead easy. Then clear out your garage. You know it’s full of pointless junk anyway, we’re a species of hoarders.
