Wandsworth Gangs Taskforce "steadfast in ...commitment to reduce gang related incidents"
A violent robber received a substantial prison sentence after pleading guilty to one count of robbery and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Detectives from the Wandsworth Gangs Taskforce were assigned to investigate a street robbery that occurred on 2nd September 2012, where the victim was robbed of his digital camera and had his jaw broken during the robbery.
The officers managed to identify the 15 year old youth responsible and arrested him in possession of the stolen property after a four day manhunt, despite the youth’s best efforts hiding at a friends address in Lambeth.
The youth was charged with the robbery and remanded into custody pending trial. However during his time in custody he made a series of phone calls from prison to his associates asking them to provide false alibis at his upcoming trial, which were all captured on tape.
The detectives produced the male from custody and further charged him with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The youth was sentenced on 15th April 2013 at Kingston Crown Court for the two offences and received a total sentence of 39 months in custody.
A/Detective Inspector John Harrison said, “The Gangs Taskforce at Wandsworth will leave no stone unturned in their robust stance with prosecuting gang members who offend on this borough. We remain steadfast in our commitment to reduce gang related incidents in Wandsworth.
If you know anyone in a street gang and are committing crime then please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
