Police Seize Four 'Pit Bull Type' Dogs

Three arrests made for possession of a dangerous dog

On Thursday 7th April, Wandsworth Borough Police, specialist dog handlers from the MPS Status Dog Unit and Wandsworth Council's dog control team executed a series of search warrants under Section 5(2) of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

These took place at addresses across the borough, as a result of information from the local community which suggested that possible Pit Bull type dogs were being kept at the premises.

In total, 9 dogs were examined, with 4 Pit Bull type dogs seized. Three arrests were made for possession of a dangerous dog, with further enquiries ongoing.

As a direct result of information from the local community in Wandsworth, we were able to remove a number of dangerous dogs from our local community and make Wandsworth a safer place.

Chief Inspector Simpson said, 'As part of Operation Plymouth, an initiative to target violent offenders and street robbers, Wandsworth Police along side local council officials executed eight search warrants under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

'This highlights our commitment to local residents, the business community and people frequenting Wandsworth that we will not tolerate violent behaviour on the borough or allow people using dangerous dogs as a status symbol to intimidate people living in our communities'.
