Public urged to monitor sculpture trail
The statue, was stolen from a plinth next to the Duke's Head public house in the Lower Richmond Road, a stone's throw from Putney Bridge. The thieves are believed to have struck on Thursday night.
The figure had stood at this location for about four years. It was presented as a gift to the people of Putney by sculptor Alan Thornhill, who lived in Putney for many years and created much of his art in a local studio.
Residents are now being urged to come forward and contact the police if they spotted anything suspicious in the area on Thursday night.
Local people are also being urged to be on their guard and to immediately call the police if they spot anyone tampering with any of the statues that form the Putney Sculpture Trail.
