A 41 year old man voluntarily walked into Wandsworth Police Station yesterday and was subsequently arrested in connection with a kidnapping incident last weekend in which a 22 year old man was forced into a vehicle in the Roehampton area and driven around for over an hour before being released at Strand on the Green, Chiswick.
The victim had been walking along Roehampton Lane towards the A3 at around 23.45 on Saturday 16th September when he was approached by a man who asked him for a cigarette. As he gave him a cigarette the victim was asked if he would like to buy some cheaply. The victim agreed and both men walked over to a green saloon car that was parked nearby.
As they reached the car the man was pushed into the back seat, where another suspect produced a knife and threatened him. He was forced into the foot well of the car and driven around. The suspects repeatedly threatened the man when he asked to be released and searched his pockets, stealing £40, keys and mobile phone.
They eventually stopped the car on Kew Bridge at approximately 1.15 on Sunday morning. The suspects took the man from the car and marched him down an alleyway to Strand on the Green. The man was left shocked by the incident but suffered no other injuries.
A 38 year old man, who had been arrested Monday September 18 in connection with the incident, has since been released without charge.
The man currently under arrest remains in custody at a south London police station.
Officers from Wandsworth's Priority Crime Unit would like to hear from anyone who saw the suspects or the vehicle in the SW15 area before the incident, or after they had dropped victim off. They can be contacted on 020 8247 8871, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
