Passengers may have vital information on the murder of Lewis Elwin

Detectives investigating the murder of a 20-year-old man in Tooting have a released a CCTV image of a car they are seeking information on.

They believe those in the car could hold valuable information regarding the murder. Detectives are seeking information on anyone who may haven been travelling in, or saw, a silver five-door Peugeot 307 with the vehicle registration - KP03 ZTD - in the same area at the time of Lewis' murder.

It was later found abandoned and burnt out in Putney Park Lane, SW15, on the same evening of the murder at 9pm.

Officers believe two or more people were seen in the car at the time.

Detective Inspector John McQuade, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "I would appeal to anyone in that vehicle to contact us as soon as possible. They may hold valuable information into what happened to Lewis and I would urge them to come forward. What they may see as an insignificant amount of information could actually prove the key into piecing together what happened to Lewis."

Lewis Elwin died after being stabbed in April this year. His funeral was held today (Friday, 17 June). On Monday, 18 April, police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 3.47pm to reports of a stabbing on Penwortham Road in Tooting.

Officers attended and found Lewis suffering from stab injuries. Lewis died at the scene a short time later. The post-mortem examination held on Tuesday, 19 April, gave the cause of his death as a stab wound to the chest.

On the day of his death, Lewis was dropped off in Moyser Road, at the junction with Ribblesdale Road. He was seen walking towards Mitcham Lane at about 3.30pm. While Lewis was in Moyser Road, he called a friend at 3.36pm and they made arrangements to meet.

At 3.40pm, Lewis was seen jogging along Penwortham Road from the direction of Moyser Road. He was heading towards Thrale Road where he collapsed.

Two 19-year-old men [A and B] were arrested in early May on suspicion of murder and have since been bailed to return on a date in early August pending further enquiries.

Enquiries by detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command continue.
