Campaign to Extend 22 Bus Route Asks for Support

Group claims TfL are finalising bus plans without consultation

A campaign to have the 22 bus route extended to Barnes are asking for public support to persuade Transport for London (TfL) to make the change.

Team 22 say that they have found out this week that TfL are finalising plans for bus services during the repairs and closure of Hammersmith Bridge later this year for repair.

They claim that TfL has not consulted them as they had promised and it appears that an extension to Barnes of the 22 bus route has been dismissed.

Campaigners proposed route for the 22 bus

The route currently goes from Putney Common to Piccadilly through Fulham and Chelsea but the group argue that it would improve connections to an area poorly served by public transport and reduce the weight of traffic on Hammersmith Bridge.

Team 22 have told this website that they need residents help to apply maximum pressure on TfL to show they support the 22 bus service. A spokesperson for Team 22 said, "22 Bus team need your help urgently – this could be our last chance - please email today, in your own words why you want the 22 bus to come to Barnes and how it would change your lives.

They ask you to send your emails to :

The campaigners have listed points that resients may wish to make:
• A permanent extension of the 22 bus route into Barnes is required as an alternative east-west route into and out of Barnes crossing Putney Bridge, linking to the tube network and Central London.
• It is a very short extension (max of 1.5miles). All bus infrastructure is in place.
• There is proven demand. Over 3000 residents are asking for this. We do not want to be ignored.
• With emergency repairs and the future closure of Hammersmith Bridge for structural works we need another bus route out of Barnes into Central London.
• Barnes has no tube so relies heavily on buses
• It will encourage people to use public transport which in turn will reduce congestion on the roads and decrease air pollution creating a less polluted environment – a key objective of the Mayor.
