Hampton
School
Independent School for boys aged 11-18. Founded in 1557, Hampton has retained the strengths of its grammar school tradition since becoming fully independent in 1975. Very sound academically and has a strong sporting tradition aided by the excellent facilities on the 27 acre site. Fees per term are £3530 (2005/6).
How do you get in?
For First Form (Year 7) Entry via a written examination, interview and
Head Teacher’s report;
For Third Form (Year 9) Entry via Common Entrance or Scholarship;
For the Sixth Form, dependent on GCSE results.
At other ages and during the course of the academic year, the Headmaster
will consider requests based on academic ability and all round merit.
Admission at 11+ - Boys join the First Form at Hampton
mainly (90%) from state schools but also from independent junior schools.
The entrance examination takes place at Hampton in January each year for
entry in September of the same year.
Awards and Bursaries - Academic, All-Rounder, Art, Music and Choral Scholarships are available to candidates who demonstrate exceptional promise in these areas. A very limited number of means-tested bursaries may also be offered at the Headmaster’s discretion based on merit and parental circumstances.
There is also an examination for boys in January of their Year 5, the ‘Advance Place Examination’, to achieve a Year 7 11+ place early.
Admission at 13+ - The great majority of boys applying at 13+ come from IAPS Preparatory Schools and are invited to a pre-test two years before that in which they would enter the School. Later applicants will be considered in special circumstances.
If they are successful in the written tests and interview, boys are given an offer conditional upon reaching a 65% mark in the Common Entrance Examination, or the equivalent in the Scholarship examination.
Awards and Bursaries - As with 11+ Entry, Academic, All-Rounder, Art and Music Scholarships are available to candidates who demonstrate ability and potential in these areas.
Sixth form entry - Boys who wish to join the Sixth Form will be interviewed by the Head of Sixth Form after they have received their Mock GCSE results. Offers will then be made conditional upon a satisfactory report from their current school and their GCSE results. Boys are expected to achieve at least six GCSE passes at grades A* or A.
A* or A grades are required for subjects to be studied at A level.
At other ages - If an occasional vacancy exists or arises, we try to ensure that consideration is given to boys who may be eligible for a place on the basis of their current standard of attainment and their potential.
