A new look Bees XI found themselves two down at half time. Gary Madine scored after 22 minutes for the home side and cheating rat-fink Ian Harte scored from the spot, following a Kev foul on Craig Curran, just before the half time whistle.
Leon Legge and Robbie Simpson replaced McCracken and Spillane at half time when the bees apparently improved. MacDonald replaced Forster on 68 mins. The bees ended the game on the ascendancy but let's be honest when you are two down you should be looking to score and the home team are likely to allow you more of the ball.
Unfortunately the bees ended the game with ten men as Myles Weston had to go off with a groin problem.
So that result is likely to deflate the fans but the last time we lost our opening match we won the championship! There are an awful lot of new players to bed in [and Carlisle might be in the same position - most teams seem to be nowadays] but I'm sure we can improve things over the next few games. With two home matches coming up next week we have a great opportunity to climb on the wagon going up the league towards the top of the hill where the silverware is - or something.
The bees were:
Simon Moore,
Woodman,
Bean, McCracken,
Balkestein,
Spillane,
Osborne,
O'Connor,
Weston,
Forster,
Alexander
with substitutes
Lee,
Legge,
Saunders,
