The St Benedict’s community will come together on Sunday 28 September 2025 at the Ealing Half Marathon to run, cheer, and give back, all inspired by one of their own, Year 13 student Isabel M.
Isabel is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, yet she continues to show extraordinary strength, humour, and determination. Despite the challenges she faces, she has chosen to lead a campaign to raise vital funds for the St Benedict’s Bursary Fund, a cause close to her heart.
The St Benedict’s bursary fund exists to make education accessible to talented and motivated students, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
It is not only designed to support current students whose families may be experiencing unexpected financial difficulty, but also to open the door to new students who might otherwise be unable to join the school. Depending on individual circumstances, a bursary can cover part of the fees, or, in some cases, the full cost, so that financial limitations never stand in the way of opportunity.
Thanks to bursary support, Isabel was able to remain at St Benedict’s during a time of deep uncertainty for her family. Now, she is giving back, not only by taking part in the race but by uniting her peers, teachers, and the wider community in support of others who may face similar hardship.
Speaking about the campaign, Isabel said:
“The idea for this campaign came from my own experience. When my family and I were experiencing such a difficult time, the bursary fund meant I could stay at St Benedict’s and have the support of my friends, teachers, and this amazing community around me. I’ll always be so grateful for that. I chose the bursary fund because I want other families who face similar circumstances such as bereavement or illness to be supported in the same way. It feels amazing to be able to give something back.”
Running alongside Isabel will be fellow Year 13 students Oscar and Freddie, as well as several members of staff and students. Together, they are rallying the school community behind this important cause.
Headmaster Joe Smith said:
“Isabel is an inspiration to us all. Her courage and commitment remind us what true resilience looks like, and her determination to give back, even in the face of personal challenges, speaks volumes about the strength of character we celebrate at St Benedict’s.”
The school is encouraging the local community to get involved – whether by cheering on Isabel and the team from the sidelines or by making a donation to the bursary fund.
This is more than just a race. It’s a powerful show of solidarity, gratitude, and hope.
