Richmond can boast of many delights: it's right next to the river, it has two theatres, Ted Lasso was filmed there - and it has a great selection of restaurants.
We went to try Cocotte which prides itself on its rotisserie chicken dishes. The Richmond branch brings the total number of Cocottes to 6 and it is the first one to start serving a few beef dishes. Cocotte bills itself as a "all-day dining destination celebrated for its rotisserie chicken, 28 days aged beef ribeye, vibrant brunches, and accessible quality".
The Richmond Cocotte was brightly lit on the evening of our visit and the manager, Amani, exceptionally welcoming and made our dinner an absolute pleasure. On her recommendation we had the rotisserie chicken with chicken jus and herb sauce and the ribeye steak for main courses with a Caesar salad and crispy halloumi as starters. She also insisted we try the chicken tenders which was no real hardship.
The starters of Caesar salad and crispy halloumi were nicely executed with texture added in the form of croutons in the former and toasted pumpkin seeds in the latter. The chicken tenders were like little battered chicken nuggets and came with an interesting beetroot sauce which was much nicer than a dollop of ketchup. Amani said the chef at the Richmond branch had come up with the beetroot sauce and it had now been adopted across all the Cocottes.
The main quarter chicken was a very generous portion of breast with two sauces. The chicken is brined overnight before roasting which ensures it is moist. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested and had a tasty dusting of seasoning on top. Sides of fries, truffle fries and celeriac slaw were equally tasty.
The creme brulee after was 'brulee'd" to order and slipped down a treat.
Amani says Cocotte is packed at lunchtime thanks to their very competitively priced lunch deal giving 1/4 Chicken, Two Sides or Salads and Two Sauces for £16. And weekend brunch menu looks very enticing with the chicken waffle dish certainly warranting further investigation.
Cocotte would be a great place to go for a pre-theatre meal and the all day brunch menu would definitely be an excellent means of refuelling after a long river walk or shorter but equally arduous shopping expedition.
