Putney Cycles blames rising costs and online competition
Putney Cycles is the latest long established local retailer to close. The specialist shop has been around for 20 years and had many loyal customers among the local cycling community at their store on the Upper Richmond Road.
In a statement on their web site they said, “We have loved serving our customers for 20 years in Putney and would like to thank everyone who has supported us in that time. It was not an easy decision to make but due to online competition and increasing costs we were fighting a losing battle our sincere apologies if anyone has been inconvenienced. Best regards.”
Elswood Cycleworks on the Lower Richmond Road continues to offer cycle repair and parts sales.
Concern continues to grow at the state of retail business in Putney with many shops complaining about rising rent and rates. The surprise closure of Marks and Spencer on the High Street has heightened worries about the main shopping area.
