Taking advantage of a free lunch at Pappa Ciccia


Two friends pop into the Lower Richmond Road pizzeria for lunch

Ever heard there is no such thing as a free lunch? Well, Pappa Ciccia has proved that saying wrong. They are currently running a lunchtime offer where if two main courses are ordered, one of them is free. Lured by this wonderful value, we popped into Pappa Ciccia recently.

The "marquee" area at the front of the restaurant was full and so we sat at the back. This was probably a mistake as it proved a bit of a thoroughfare. Gentlemen wearing motorbike helmets and bearing boxes of takeaway pizza kept coming past our table: admittedly the passing pizzas smelt delicious and the restaurant is clearly a very popular take away choice.

The waiter was charming and very helpful - if slightly slow to take our order. The menu offers a great selection of pizzas (eat in, take away and delivery), salads and pasta dishes. We chose a rocket & parmesan salad which was generous in size fresh and tasty and a platter of antipasto - various cold meats and cheese with yummy light foccacia bread, Olive oil and balsamic vinegar - for our starters. We had a glass of the house chianti to accompany them.

Our main courses were Penne Arababita and a chicken salad. The penne was covered in a tasty "hot" sauce with fresh parmesan and freshly ground pepper on request and received the thumbs up, whereas the chicken salad was slightly disappointing; the chicken breast was beaten flat which made it rather unattractive to the eye as the words "road kill" came unbidden to mind! The marinade based on balsamic vinegar was in fact tasty but perhaps chunks of breast would have been more appreciated.

Sadly as parking meters were expiring we were unable to to squeeze in desserts but the cappuccino and espresso macchiato we had whilst paying the bill were perfect.

With one main course free when we mentioned www.PutneySW15.com, the bill came to a very reasonable £34.45 and it was certainly worth the visit. But next time I will ask for a table at the front!
