West Putney Gets Authentic New Italian Restaurant

La Parmigiana offers fresh pizza and pasta and more to eat in or take away

New to the Lower Richmond Road is La Parmigiana, a family owned Italian restaurant offering delicious fresh Italian food in a simple, minimalist environment.

The site was formerly the Bedford Cafe - the restaurant is located near Putney Common (but sadly no views of it) with seating for approximately 25-30 people.

Incentivised by feedback on the forum: "Food was excellent, great choice, incredible value (even without 20% discount), wine and other alcoholic drinks very reasonably priced. We were a group of 4, ordering different meals, all tasted superb. This little restaurant will, I’m sure become one of Putney’s favourite eateries. They deserve to do well and if they follow the standard of tonight, the only problem may be getting a booking in the future" - Paul Clements & Nick Gulliford commented, "This is not a Pizzeria it’s a proper Italian restaurant. Nicely fitted out. Cosy feel. Took the family and was very impressed with the food, had some salads, pizzas and pasta, menu had a good variety and was well priced. Delightful young girl serving who made us feel very welcome and gave us some complimentary breads which were delicious" - we booked a table for lunch on Saturday.

We were received with warmth by a friend of the owner who is helping it whilst they recruit the right front of house staff. The menu offers a wide selection of starters, pizzas, pasta fish and meat dishes and the portion sizes are generous.

There is a house white or red served by the glass (£4.70) (or bottle £14.95) and the rest of the wine list is by the bottle - they also serve beers and soft drinks.

We were given a delicious free (opening week offer) garlic bread with balsamic vinegar and oil dip whilst we waited for your lunch dishes. The vegetarian tagliatelle alle melanzane (£9.95) was delicious - a rich in flavour yet light tomato sauce with basil and grilled aubergine sauce had mozzarella balls which slowly melted in to the sauce and pasta as I ate.

The Americana pizza (£10.50) was light and fluffy with traditional salami with fresh basil and tasty smoked pancetta. Our only comment would be a pizza cutter would make it easier to eat if we were being picky!

The carbonara (£8.50) comes with your choice of pasta - our friend chose linguine. Rich and creamy with plenty of bacon and topped with their home grown chives - "delicious!".

The restaurant filled up as we ate and families are very welcome as one would expect from an Italian family run business, I hear the waitress tell a family that they could do any dish 'kids size'.

Currently they are offering a 20% discount as an opening offer (last day - 21 October) - their pricing is competitive so even after the discount ends your meal should not break the bank.
