Family run Lebanese restaurant offers great food and value for money
A former hairdresser salon at 26 Lower Richmond Road has taken on a new lease of life offering fresh Lebanese dishes thanks to the husband and wife team (and their five year old son).
Offering a range of traditional and modern Lebanese and Middle Eastern delicacies using fresh ingredients and their delicious flatbread wraps made on site, you are spoilt for choice.
Spurred on by encouraging comments on the forum, we went to try it for ourselves. On Friday evening our table of 4 complete a full house in the small restaurant and we had a warm welcome from the lady of the house. With a corkage fee of £3 per bottle you can enjoy a fine wine with your delicacies without breaking the bank and the restaurant as a steady supply of ice cold drinking water.
Our group literally wanted everything on the starter list but we managed to control ourselves with a selection of seven! Nothing disappointed the taste buds and with the most expensive being £4.50 for Moutabbal (pureed smoked aubergine) and the lowest being the deliciously light Falafel (£2) so we had to order two portions of the latter!
Unsurprisingly we were rather full after cleaning our bowls of all signs of the starters and so we opted to share two saj* dishes between the fours of us. Saj* is a freshly baked thin/flat bread topped with your choice - we went one vegetarian option of zaatar with vegetables (£3.50) and one carnivore option of lamb shawarma (£5 -the most expensive dish on the menu!). The zaatar option was light and delicious and the lamb one was generous and very tender. Desserts and teas and coffee also served - including arabic coffee and fresh mint tea.
As in many family run restaurants in Lebanon the owners young son is in situ and was charming and very confident when chatting to the guest. The owners are both very welcoming and rightly proud of their cuisine, the food delicious - service is leisurely but we were not in a rush. It gets the thumbs up for taste and value - where else in Putney can four people eat out for under £50 (excluding the cost of wine we brought with us)? No takeaway chains etc do not count!
The restaurant is open seven days a week from 9.30am for snacks and a deli service. They serve evening meals from Monday to Saturday.
Take-away menu available on line.
