Sunday Roast At The Glass Dome Restaurant

What a treat and it wasn't even Mother's Day

To celebrate the last weekend of the summer holidays it was a treat to have a Sunday roast that I had not cooked and to spend time catching up with the family.

It was the first Sunday event and you are not just restricted to Sunday roast as the usual menu is also available, offering something for everyone.

Mr B & I opted for roast beef with all the trimmings and we weren't disappointed. We were pleasantly surprised to be asked how we liked it to be cooked - often with roasts I find that you have no say - you get what is available at the time of your serving. Ours came rare as requested and was very tender and tasty. Accompanied by a light, fluffy Yorkshire pudding, fresh seasonal vegetables of curly kale, carrots beans and cauliflower cheese with a rich red wine jus. The vegetables were a highlight – firm texture and full of flavour.

The boys opted for the burger (no surprise for regular readers) (£10.85) - which was a moist thick (7oz) patty of Argentinean beef rich with herbs & garlic in a sesame bun with salad and thick chips.

Wines at the glass dome starts at £16.95, we chose a bottle of Woolshed Pinot Noir (£18.95) - a medium bodied, light-coloured wine with hints of earthy oak & berries.

Throughout the meal a local singer Ken Cox accompanied by Gary Martin on guitar played a wide selection of easy listening music/jazz, unobtrusive and enjoyable. The restaurant which has been open for less than a year has made live music one of its unique attributes with a pianist over the weekend evenings on the baby grand.

Desserts were well received, a chocolate mousse (£4.50) promising 30% less calories as there is no butter - my son certainly didn't choose it for that reason and it quickly disappeared, I didn't even get a chance to take a photo! The raspberry crème brulee (£4.50) fared equally well and I probably shouldn't have ordered it, but the French pear & almond tart tatin (£4.50) was also well received.

The final bill including cokes, sparkling water & coffee was £106.53 for the four of us. Plus no cooking or clearing and no washing up!
