Enoteca Turi - It Just Can't Be Faulted!

If I have a special occasion to celebrate or simply want to guarantee a lovely evening then a table at Enoteca Turi has never let me down.

Friends had recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary there last month and I was overjoyed to hear that I too would be celebrating there my own milestone of 19 years!

We opened with a glass of prosecco whilst we made our choices. We checked against Giuseppe's advice of which wine suits which dish. Enoteca has a wine list to die for. As the gentleman on the table next to us said, you want to take a copy home before you arrive to allow you time to make your choices from over 550 wines on the list including half carafes at from £9.75.

I was predictable with my starter - the Antipasto Pugliese (£8.50), a beautifully presented selection of Apulian vegetarian antipasto with broad bean puree, grilled, pickled and marinated vegetables. My husband opted for the Sardine beccafico (£8.90), Sicilian style sardines filled with toasted breadcrumbs, pine nuts- - which together gave an attractive crunchy texture to the dish - plus, raisins and lemon, baked in white wine.

The main courses were the Scaloppine di maiale organico al limone con frittedda e puree di patate (£20.50), which are organic pork escalopes with lemon sauce, Sicilian frittedda (artichokes, peas, broad beans and spring onions), garlic and sage mash - delicious! Mark tucked in to the Petto di faraona arrosto, salsiccia di gamba al tartufo, peara’ e barba di frate (£20.75) a breast of guinea fowl with truffled leg sausage.

The wine choice was a Cortini Pinot Nero (44.50) which accompanied the game and the lighter pork equally well. According to the wine list "Castello di Neive is a family estate run by Italo Stupino, a “conservative innovator”, who has transformed this reliable azienda into one that is now achieving true excellence. With some of the finest vineyards in Piedmont, he produces terroir driven wines. He has planted this prime vineyard with pinot noir, remembering the fine wine made by his father from this area. This vineyard wine has freshness and elegance, rarely found outside Burgundy; intense nose of raspberry with hints of vanilla, finely textured tannins, sweet fruit leading to a silky, long finish".

We shared a dessert with the Panna cotta allo zenzero con rabarbaro (£7.25) a refreshing ginger panna cotta and rhubarb with lemongrass, just enough to share.... but only just as it was so light it was tempting to quickly tuck in to all of it but I had to remember the word "share"! The service was immaculate and the restaurant was busy despite being a Tuesday evening.
