Cornish lobster spaghetti is certainly proving a popular option at Enoteca Turi
Having designed the banners advertising the Cornish Lobster promotion the taste buds were tempted so we booked a table at one of the oldest Italian's in Putney Enoteca Turi to see if it tasted as good as it looks!
The restaurant was full - so not everyone has left South West London, and looking around there were certainly proof that the lobster was proving popular.
Our starters also included Cornish fayre with a fabulous and colourful dish of grilled mackerel with tomato, samphire and potato, toasted almond and basil (8.90), my option was the Antipasto Pugliese (8.50) which is a platter of Mediterranean vegetables grilled and marinaded, with fava bean puree.
Our main courses arrived with my husband opting for the Lobster Spaghetti (16.50) - the subtle lobster flavour was enhanced by a smooth sauce, he is never one for fighting his food off the bone or shell so this proved an easy way to enjoy the lobster! My Saltimbocca di fegato di vitello con piselli e cipolotti (20.75)
was a very tender calves liver sautéed with parma ham, braised peas and spring onion, peashoot salad.
Enoteca is famous for its extensive wine cellar and Guiseppe has helped with suggestions on the food menu of wines that will suit your food. With one wanting red and one wanting white we opted for two half carafes of wine - the red was a Gudarra Aglianico del Vulture (23 carafe/ 44.50 bottle) which lived up to the description of "an intense nose .... rich fruit
of plum and dark cherry, supple and structured tannins, with a layered and complex
finish" the white Rami Falanghina (13.75 carafe/ 25.50 bottle) was "light to medium bodied with a fresh, dry finish". (House wines are £17.50 per bottle both red & white).
Dessert was shared between us and beautifully presented - a white wine jelly encasing poached nectarines served with an amaretti custard and summer berries (7.25) for someone like me who loves almonds the custard was too good to be true!
Whilst the lobster season is still on I highly recommend booking a table (the special is only available on Friday and Saturdays) as in answer to my original question it does taste as good as it looks! The total bill was £123.35 including service, coffee and mineral water.
