Artisans of Sardinia offer a tempting menu introducing Sardinian festive deliciousness
Birthdays in the festive season can make eating out restricted with turkey and mince pies and christmas pudding on the menus - don't get me wrong, we enjoy all of the above but don't want to eat it throughout the month of December!
Artisans of Sardinia have brought the festive flavours enjoyed on the Mediterranean island to Putney and the meal was delicious, and there is an ' la carte menu' on offer as well as the festive set menus.
Following a baskets of home-made breads with a delicious dip of aubergine and tomatoes, two of us started with the avocado, red pepper and pine nut bruschetta from the festive menu, while one member ordered the Buffalo mozzarella with pesto and crispy pecorino with sun dried tomatoes - sorry all were eaten too quickly to take photos!
I thoroughly enjoyed the braised beef ravioli with a mushroom sauce and sauteed mushrooms - wonderful combination of earth flavours on such a cold evening. The second pasta dish enjoyed by the table was the Green Ravioli; a light combination of ricotta, basil and sage, consumed so quickly I am not sure it hit the sides! Whilst the third member ordered the pumpkin risotto which received the thumbs up - be warned pumpkin makes a sweetish risotto.
I continued with the earthy tomes for my main course, a sausage and lentil stew with Mediterranean herbs. Heart warming, don't expect a British stew with loads of gravy, the lentils absorb the liquids absorbing the herbs and seasoning.
My friends too the fish and seafood route with the Sea Bream from the festive menu, which sits on sauteed broccoli, potatoes and capers with a lemon dressing and the third went for the sauteed prawns which are cooked with white wine and garlic and served on lentils.
Only one could manage a fourth course! He ordered the cheesecake - a home made ricotta and chocolate and hazelnut combination - much lighter than the baked cheesecakes form the USA.
The set menu at lunch or dinner - excluding any of the fabulous Sardinian wines that Massimo and his cellar offers, is;
2 courses £14.90
3 courses £19.90
4 courses £24.00
If you feel like sharing the cooking load this year - the team at Artisans of Sardinia are hosting a Christmas Eve meal and is also taking booking for New Year's Eve. I woudl certainly recommend you taking a break and treating yourself to a meal at Artisans of Sardinia.... have a little me time!
