Saturday 2nd XI vs Chaldon CMO
An unbeaten half century from Anmol Chandan guided Putney 2XI to their first league win of the 2012 season against Chaldon CMO.
Putney won the toss and inserted the opposition who laboured to 139 all out off 45 overs. Mike Henshall and Murad Malik (1 for 18) created pressure in the early stages of the Chaldon innings with very disciplined bowling and aided by good ground fielding from Chandan, Mike Smith and Usman Amin; the later created the first wicket of the season effecting a run out whilst fielding in the cover point region. Jon Jarrett and Patrick McGahan took two wickets each but the pick of the bowlers was Piers Jackson with 3 wickets; created through excellent death bowling in tandem with Jarrett.
McGahan (1) and Jackson (9) opened the innings for Putney and got off to a sedate start; however Mark Wibberley increased the tempo with 3 sixes and provided the innings with the impetus required given fading light was becoming a concern. Once Wibberley (32) departed caught behind at 59 for 3; Chandan and Malik (15) combined to put on 48 runs until Malik was bowled. Atkins joined Chandan and the pair took Putney to the brink before Atkins departed at 132 for 5. Richard Brambley followed in the next over for a duck but Henshall and Chandan saw Putney home. Chandan finished on 55 with 4 fours.
Overall this was a great start to the second XI campaign and a special mention must be made of Eddie’s ability to produce an excellent wicket given the recent inclement weather.
